Professor of English at the University of Michigan, he is director of the Program in Comparative Literature and of the Global Ethnic Literatures Seminar. His most recent books are The Subject and Other Subjects, Among Men, and The Body Aesthetic: From Fine Art to Body Modification. He is completing a book on disability studies called Disability Theory.
