The location at Innrain 52 has served as a long-term climate and meteorological station for more than 40 years. As part of a major research infrastructure grant a new observatory (the Innsbruck Atmospheric Observatory for Environmental Research in Alpine and Urban Terrain: IAO) will be established. New measurement capabilities will include a dual Doppler LIDAR and instrumentation for atmospheric chemistry observations. The new facility will complement existing infrastructure for synoptic meteorology (collaboration with ZAMG), and radiation and remote sensing (collaboration with MUI and Luftblick GmBH) observations. A new tower for urban micrometeorological measurement activities is currently being installed. Over the next 5 years a number of field campaigns at this urban location are anticipated. |
