What on earth does the UN have to do with this? Stolen cultural property and the role of the United Nations System
Giovanna Gossage
The United Nations system plays a crucial role in raising awareness of the issue of stolen cultural property and developing strategies to prevent its theft and trafficking. Through its various initiatives and mechanisms, it seeks to protect cultural heritage and promote the importance of cultural diversity and preservation. This session will provide an overview of the UN system organizations involved in this task including the relevant conventions, the types of technical assistance provided to countries and the international legal frameworks which govern, among other matters, the return of stolen goods to their rightful owners.
