Prof. Hiroyuki Matsuda (Yokohama University, Japan) ist langjähriges Mitglied des japanischen Nationalkomitees für das UNESCO-Programm "Man and the Biosphere" (MAB) sowie UNESCO Chair Holder für "Education in Biosphere Reserves for Sustainable Societies" (EBRoSS).

There is a growing consensus that we should not only protect pristine natural environments, but also conserve the nature that encompasses human communities. The importance of nature within urban areas is also growing. In an era of declining human populations, the human-wildlife conflict is becoming increasingly severe, and a "new deal for nature and people" is needed. Hiroyuki Matsuda will discuss the "living in harmony with nature" through practical examples from the Convention on Biological Diversity, wildlife management, education for sustainable development (ESD), and citizen science.

Die Veranstaltung wird in Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Institut für Interdisziplinäre Gebirgsforschung (IGF), dem Department für Ökologie der Universität Innsbruck, dem Nockberge-Management des Biosphärenparks "Salzburger Lungau & Kärtner Nockberge" und dem „World Network of Mountain Biosphere Reserves“ (WNMBR) durchgeführt.
