The Department of American Studies is organizing a joint book launch to celebrate the publication of two new books from members of the department:
• Dr. Michael Docherty’s The Recursive Frontier: Race, Space, and the Literary Imagination of Los Angeles (SUNY Press, May 2024)
• Dr. Ben Robbins’s Faulkner’s Hollywood Novels: Women between Page and Screen (UVA Press, July 2024).

These new publications both focus on twentieth-century American literature, and they place Los Angeles at the heart of American cultural histories. In conversation with Sandra Tausel, the authors will discuss the intersecting themes of their books and LA’s unique position in global culture, followed by a Q&A.
