Geotechnical design with numerical methods
Wolfgang Fellin and Franz Tschuchnigg (TU Graz), Hans-Peter Daxer (TU Graz)
The design of geotechnical structures is based on the Eurocodes. Traditional methods of structural analysis are mostly used for the limit state analysis. Numerical methods have developed considerably in the last decades and also provide useful options for limit state analysis, such as the strength reduction finite element method or the finite element limit analysis. We use the stability in the lower failure plane of anchored walls to compare traditional and numerical methods so that numerical methods can be used in accordance with Eurocode requirements.
