Bei vielen PCs weltweit wurde das Upgrade von Windows 10 auf Windows 11 schon automatisch im Zuge der üblichen Windowsupdates installiert.
Wegen der Komplexität des Zusammenspiels von Betriebssystem, der manigfaltigen Software und anderen Erfordernissen der Universität wurde dieser automatische Vorgang durch den Zentralen Informatikdienst (ZID) aufgehalten, um genug Zeit zu haben, möglichst alle Wechselwirkungen zwischen Hardware, Betriebssytem und Software zu testen.
Der von Microsoft festgesetzte Termin zur Einstellung der Verteilung von Sicherheitsupdates für Windows 10 rückt näher und dann würden alle Windows 10 PCs zu einem Sicherheitsrisiko für die Universität. Deshalb findet ab 25.11.2024 um 17:00 ein Upgrade aller vom ZID gemanagten PCs von Windows 10 auf Windows 11 statt. Falls Sie mit dem Update einverstanden sind müssen Sie diesbezüglich also nichts weiter tun.
Weiterführende Informationen für Nutzer:innen, die Windows 10 aus technischen Gründen noch benötigen (z.B. Verwendung einer Software, die nicht mit Windows 11 kompatibel ist):
Am 21.10.2024 stellen wir im Softwarecenter der vom ZID gemanagten PCs (managedPCs) für 3 Wochen ein Tool („Windows 11 Inplace-Upgrade Deaktivieren“) zur Verfügung, dessen Installation dieses Upgrade vorläufig verhindert, bis es bis es in ca. 2 Jahren obligatorisch ist. Sie finden das Softwarecenter im Softwaremenü oder wenn Sie im Windows-Suchfeld nach „Softwarecenter“ suchen. Eine genaue bebilderte Anleitung dazu und eine Möglichkeit zu überprüfen ob ihr PC Windows 11 - fähig ist, finde Sie hier.
On many PCs worldwide, the upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 has already been installed automatically as part of the usual Windows updates.
Due to the complexity of the interaction between the operating system, the diverse software and other requirements of the university, this automatic process was delayed by the Central IT Service (ZID) in order to have enough time to test as many interactions between hardware, operating system and software as possible.
The date set by Microsoft to stop the distribution of security updates for Windows 10 is approaching and then all Windows 10 PCs would become a security risk for the university. Therefore, an upgrade of all PCs managed by the ZID from Windows 10 to Windows 11 will take place from 25.11.2024 at 17:00. If you agree to the update, you do not need to do anything else in this regard.
Further information for users who still need Windows 10 for technical reasons (e.g. using software that is not compatible with Windows 11):
On 21.10.2024, we will provide a tool (“Deactivate Windows 11 Inplace Upgrade”) in the software center of the PCs managed by the ZID (managedPCs) for 3 weeks, the installation of which will temporarily prevent this upgrade until it is mandatory in approx. 2 years. You can find the Software Center in the software menu or by searching for “Software Center” in the Windows search field.
