DK ALM PhD students
video portraits

DK ALM PhD students work in broad range of AMO physics, have an international background, and are highly motivated to perform cutting edge research. In the DK-ALM programme the students work on a specific research topic in AMO physics, establish collaborations within the DK community and beyond. Their training further includes attending conferences presenting research results and going on research stays abroad.

In the interview series below four colleagues introduce themselves, will give multi-faceted insights in their research and personal experiences during their PhD studies within the DK ALM.

Elena Poli

Elena finished her MSc in Physics at the Università di Padova, Italy. After her first research stay at the National Laboratories of Gran Sasso, she worked with the group of her third supervisor Blair Blackie at the University of Otago. At the Universität Innsbruck she is working as a theorist in the experimental group of Francesca Ferlaino, Institute of Experimental Physics.

Alexander Ebenbichler

Alexander from the Institute of Astro- and Particle Physics, group Norbert Przybilla, is working on diffuse interstellar bands (DIPs). He finished his MSc in Physics in October 2019 at the Universität of Innsbruck. He stayed over 7 months abroad at different institutes, more precisely at the University Leiden, University of Western Ontario, and National Astronomical Observatory of Japan.

Isaac David Smith

Isaac finished his MSc in Mathematics at University of Melbourne, Australia and moved to Innsbruck to work in the group of Hans Briegel at the Institute of Theoretical Physics. He is working on quantum information theory and quantum computation. For his research stay, he worked at University of Waterloo, Canada.

Sruthi Melath Purushu

Sruthi completed her MSc in May 2020 at University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kerala, India. She is working on spectroscopy studies of interstellar anions in the group of Roland Wester, Institute for Ion and Applied Physics. Sruthi completed 6 months of research stays abroad working at the Universität Basel, MPI for Nuclear Physics, Heidelberg, and the Universität Köln.
