Thomas Hoffmann studied sociology, psychology and political science at the Universities of Hamburg and Berlin. Practical experience as an adult educator in homes, day centers and sheltered workshops for people with severe and multiple handicaps. Adjunct professor and research fellow at the Universities of Hamburg, Cologne, and Ludwigsburg. 2007-2018 assistant professor (german: Akademischer Oberrat) at the Department of Special Education at Ludwigsburg University of Education. 2015-2016 visiting professor at the Department of Special Education at Heidelberg University of Education and 2016-2017 visiting professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Since 2018 he is professor of Inclusive Education at the University of Innsbruck. Thomas Hoffmann is head of the Working Group Inclusive Education, of the curriculum board of the Faculty of Teacher Education and since 2021 deputy head of the Department of Teacher Education and School Research. He is also Editor of the Book Series "ICHS – International Cultural-historical Human Sciences". Research topics are social inclusion of children with disabilities and underprivileged children in school, theory and philosophy of education and development-oriented didactics, STEM education regarding inclusive didactics, intellectual disabilities and learning difficulties, critical exclusion studies and disability history.
